Why used-car procurement bleeds margin

A fragmented market

Offers are scattered across dozens of listing and auction platforms. Each portal has its own interface, its own filters, and its own publication logic. Manual browsing never covers the whole market, and buyers miss opportunities that appear on niche sources.

Hidden margins

A local listing won't tell you what a Prague dealer charges versus a Munich dealer. Without a pan-European price layer, buyers see only half the equation, the purchase price, not the real exit value on their own market. Margins are estimated by gut feel.

Slow decisions

By the time a buyer clicks through to evaluate a single vehicle (equipment, comparable listings, margin, stock risk), tens of minutes have passed. Good deals disappear within hours, occasionally days. Slow analysis means systematically lost opportunities.

Illiquidity risk

An attractive purchase price doesn't guarantee a good buy. A vehicle that's hard to sell on the target market ties up capital for weeks or months while financing compounds the loss. Without a market liquidity score, procurement is a game of chance.

Our Solutions

  • More than 30 listing and auction platforms unified into a single interface. Deduplication, parameter normalisation, and continuous scanning, clean data across all sources, no tab-switching.

  • Recommended Price estimates the final sale price on your target market based on data from across Europe. VIN, equipment, mileage, region, and seasonal demand feed into a single number that tells you what you'll realistically get for the vehicle.

  • Margin Calculation doesn't estimate a gross margin; it computes the actual one by subtracting optional additional costs (transport, servicing, preparation) in the Costs section. You see the outcome, not the ideal.

  • Liquidity Index 0–100 shows how quickly a model sells on the target market. Days on Display shows how many days a specific listing has been on the source platform, a useful signal for price negotiation.

  • Price Map plots the vehicle's position against the market as a price-vs-mileage scatter chart. Multi-Car Comparison compares selected vehicles parameter by parameter. Complex decisions take seconds.

  • A proprietary methodology scores a vehicle's equipment against competing offers in the same segment. You see exactly where it has an edge (for example climate control, navigation, driver-assistance systems) and where it falls short, and position the listing and price accordingly.

  • Before publishing a listing you see how the vehicle will appear in real search results against the competition. If the price or presentation won't hold up, you adjust before the listing goes live, saving a week of zero enquiries.

Price Map

Market position, not guesswork.

What Price Map does

The selected vehicle is plotted as a large dot against all comparable listings in the same segment across Europe. The trend line shows how price should move relative to mileage, deviations are visible immediately.

How it works

1
AggregationSourcing continuously pulls offers from more than 30 European listing and auction platforms, deduplicates them, and normalises vehicle parameters.
2
AI ValuationFor each vehicle the system calculates Recommended Price, margin (net of costs), Liquidity Index, and Days on Display, a complete picture of how attractive the offer is.
3
FilteringIn the Statistics panel you set a minimum margin, required liquidity, seller type, or VAT mode. The table instantly shows what's worth exploring.
4
Detail & Drill-DownFor each vehicle you see Price Map, comparable listings, and the full equipment list from VIN. Multi-Car Comparison compares parameter by parameter.
5
Want to BuySelected vehicles move into the shared procurement team to-do list. Notifications alert you to new offers and price changes on tracked vehicles.

What the AI takes into account

AI estimate of the final sale price on the target market, built on real data from across Europe. Takes into account equipment, age, mileage, region, and seasonal demand.

The actual margin after deducting the purchase price and optional costs (transport, servicing, preparation). You see the resulting return, not an idealised gross margin.

A score from 0 to 100 indicating how quickly a given model sells on the target market. A higher LID means lower risk of tied-up capital and a shorter time in stock.

The number of days a specific listing has been active on the source platform. A high DOD signals the seller may be more open to price negotiation.

Proprietary equipment score versus direct competitors in the same segment. Shows where the vehicle has an edge and where it falls short, a key input for listing positioning and purchase price.

Margin is in market coverage speed
10×

A manual buyer can review a fraction of available offers in a day. Sourcing monitors the entire European market continuously, 24/7. That tenfold coverage is precisely the mechanism behind the average +€850 profit per vehicle. More offers evaluated means more precise filtering of opportunities, and fewer purchases made simply because there wasn't time to look further.

Liquidity is half the equation
−50 %

An attractive purchase price isn't enough. A vehicle with no buyers on the target market ties up capital, compounds financing costs, and erodes margin. Liquidity Index and Days on Display give buyers both sides of the equation, how much the vehicle costs and how quickly you'll get your money back. Purchased vehicles sell on average 7–14 days faster than those chosen intuitively.

Margin Calculation

Margin net of real costs

Profit isn't made on gross margin. Sourcing deducts all costs the vehicle actually needs and shows you what's left at the end. In practice the difference between gross and net margin can be over €1,200, and you see it immediately.

Gross margin would show €4,200; the actual figure is 22% lower.
Key Features

Three modules
to one outcome

01 · Aggregated European Market

The entire market in one interface.

Sourcing continuously scans more than 30 listing and auction platforms across Europe and consolidates all offers into a single view. No tab-switching, no duplicates, just one unified feed where you find vehicles before anyone else.

02 · Real-Time Margin and Liquidity

Always know what you're buying.

For every listing the system calculates a recommended sale price, margin (net of transport and service costs), and a Liquidity Index from 0 to 100. High-margin, high-liquidity vehicles are highlighted automatically, so decisions take seconds, not hours.

03 · Want-to-Buy Workflow

From discovery to acquisition in a few clicks.

Move selected vehicles to the Want to Buy tab, a shared to-do list for your entire procurement team. Notifications alert you to new listings matching saved filters and price changes on tracked vehicles, so you never miss an opportunity.

Stories from the field

OVERLOOKED OPPORTUNITY

Audi A6 on a niche auction platform

Situation

A vehicle with above-average equipment appeared on a regional auction platform the buyer didn't usually monitor, manual tracking of it wasn't cost-effective.

Solution

Sourcing automatically aggregated the listing, calculated a margin of +€2,100 and a Liquidity Index of 78. The team was notified the same day.

Result

The vehicle was purchased within 24 hours and sold 11 days faster than the segment average.

HIDDEN NON-MARGIN

Attractive price with low liquidity

Situation

A diesel estate at a very favourable purchase price looked like a clear acquisition from the local listing. The buyer was one click away from moving it to Want to Buy.

Solution

Liquidity Index showed 22, the model sells slowly in the target region due to a shift in demand towards petrol engines. Sourcing recommended excluding the vehicle.

Result

The team avoided a purchase that would have tied up capital for at least 8 weeks.

FAST ACQUISITION

BMW X3 in a pricing window after a competitor stock-out

Situation

A competing dealer sold out of SUV stock in the segment, creating a pricing window that typically lasts 3–5 days.

Solution

Sourcing detected the drop in competing listings and proposed three candidates with the highest margin and a Liquidity Index above 70.

Result

The team bought two vehicles and sold them with a margin +€1,800 higher than the standard pricing environment would have produced.

COMPARABLE LISTINGS

Volkswagen Passat across three platforms

Situation

The same model was listed on three different portals with a price difference of up to €1,600. Manual comparison would have taken tens of minutes.

Solution

Sourcing deduplicated all three listings, compared equipment from VIN, and flagged the best one. Multi-Car Comparison also revealed a difference in probable equipment.

Result

The team saved €1,600 on the purchase price and 30 minutes of analysis.

PRICE NEGOTIATION

A listing sitting for 47 days

Situation

A premium SUV at a reasonable price, but long on the market. The question: is it worth negotiating?

Solution

Days on Display of 47, combined with a mildly declining price trend in the segment, signalled the seller would be willing to discount. Sourcing recommended opening negotiations.

Result

A discount of €1,200 from the original price was agreed, without it, margin would have fallen below the target threshold.

SOURCING-AS-A-SERVICE

New dealership without an analytics team

Situation

A newly opened branch had no capacity for daily market research. The goal was to stock the lot with attractive compact SUVs.

Solution

Omnetic experts pre-selected 14 vehicles with high margin and liquidity across three countries according to the brief. Logistics were arranged directly to the dealership.

Result

Stock restocked within 3 weeks with an average margin of +€940 per vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to your
most-asked questions

Sourcing continuously scans 31 listing and auction platforms across 11 European countries, mobile.de, AutoScout24, Lacentrale, Otomoto, TipCars, Sauto, Hasznaltauto, Auto1, and other specialist auction houses. It processes approximately 7 million offers and 40 million operations daily. Data is deduplicated and normalised, so you work with a clean feed regardless of source.

Feature Rank is a proprietary methodology that scores a specific vehicle's equipment against direct competitors in the same segment. It shows which features give the vehicle an edge (e.g. air conditioning, navigation, driver-assistance systems) and where it lags behind. It serves as an input for listing positioning, purchase-price negotiation, and sale-price estimation.

A Virtual Listing is a preview of how your listing will appear in search results against the competition before you publish it. You see your position in the price ranking, visual presentation, and Feature Rank, and can adjust price, photos, or equipment to maximise demand from day one.

Recommended Price is an AI estimate of the final sale price for a vehicle on your target market. It draws on real data from across Europe, VIN, equipment, mileage, region, and seasonal demand. Margin Calculation subtracts the purchase price and any optional additional costs (transport, servicing, preparation) from the recommended price, so you see not just a gross margin but the actual expected return.

Liquidity Index (LID) is a score from 0 to 100 showing how quickly a given model sells on the target market. A higher LID means lower risk of a vehicle sitting in stock. Days on Display (DOD) shows how long a specific listing has been active on the source platform, a high DOD signals the seller may be more willing to negotiate on price.

For dealers on Omnetic DMS the integration is native, a vehicle selected in Sourcing transfers directly into the inventory system with its analytics record. For other DMS, CRM, or procurement tools, an open REST API is available covering vehicle import, status synchronisation, and report export.

If you don't have time to analyse the market yourself, Omnetic experts will pre-select the best vehicles for you according to your brief, segment, target margin, geography, seasonal strategy. Selected vehicles can be delivered directly to your dealership. A full-service offering for dealers who want the results without the process.

The average additional profit is approximately +€850 per vehicle. Procurement is up to 10× faster than manual platform browsing, meaning more opportunities evaluated in the same time. Combined with eliminating purchases of illiquid vehicles, the investment typically pays back within the first weeks of operation.

All data is transmitted using 256-bit SSL/TLS encryption. Data stored on servers is protected with AES-256 encryption. Access is controlled by a role-based system (RBAC), all activity is audited, and the infrastructure undergoes regular independent security reviews. Processing is fully compliant with the applicable GDPR regulation.
